Blizzplanet attended the Diablo III PlayStation 3 launch event in Mexico City. The Diablo III senior level designer Jonny Ebbert explained the hardships to adapt Diablo III for the console. Josh Mosqueira recorded a video in spanish as a message to this event's attendees. The location chosen for this launch event could be considered a creative sacrilege. The Britain-american Museum was formerly a church created in 1895. The Diablo III developer directed his speech to the audience from an altar, with red lights painting the walls.

ARS: Blizzard has been talking about it for quite a while, but this month we actually saw the first console release of a Diablo game since a half-decent conversion on the original PlayStation back in 1998. I've finally had some time to play through a few hours of the Xbox 360 version of the game with a few different character classes, both single-player and cooperatively, and I think I'm ready to say that I actually prefer playing Diablo III on a console to the original PC version.

It suffered from a terribly unstable launch, giving birth to the now infamous Error 37 meme. The auction house took players away from exploring dungeons to scrolling through online listings. There was a whole myriad of problems, some of which like the DRM cant be fixed on the PC side of things now. However the console port of the game takes heavy strides to try and remedy most of these issues, and for the most part it succeeds."

Diablo III was a long time coming. Released last year, it hit store shelves a whopping twelve years after the previous game in the series. Thats a crazy long time between drinks for fans of the genre. You know whats longer than even that? Fourteen years; thats how long console gamers have been waiting for another go at Blizzards brand of action RPG / digital crack. That wait is finally over, now that Diablo III (who needs part two, eh?) is available for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Was it worth it, though?

Ken McKown writes:I didnt believe it would happen. Diablo III is out for consoles, and the scary part is, it is really, really good. What has been known as one of the defining PC franchises, this loot-gathering experience is now available for the console masses. This version takes out a lot of the bad from its PC brethren and replaces it with console-specific goodies that actually make this the version to own. I would be hard pressed to name a better co-op experience released this year.
